ALISON BALSOM CONCERT UPDATE
Alison Balsom, who married the film producer Sam Mendes earlier this year, is pregnant and their baby is due in September. Her doctor has strongly advised her not to work or travel and she is reluctantly following this advice. As you can imagine she has had to disappoint a lot of people. However, if Alison is well enough, she says will join us to introduce the concert.
She writes “It’s with such a heavy heart that I cannot come and perform to you all in Deal next month. As President of the Festival, and being so fond of coming and playing here, it has made the decision even more difficult for me. However, as an expectant mother, I must take the advice of my doctors and rest at home for the remainder of my pregnancy. I hope that I shall return in the near future and in the meantime thank you all for your kindness and support at this time". Alison Balsom’.
Deal Festival has been fortunate in persuading the amazing French trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin-Vary to join The Purcell School for this concert. Lucienne stands out because of her exceptional virtuosity and amazing maturity – she is 18 years of age and has been awarded first prize at every competition which she entered. She made her London debut with the London Chamber Orchestra earlier this month performing Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings and is already booked to appear in North America and Canada. We are thrilled to be welcoming Lucienne and we know you will not be disappointed – please see this youtube clip.
